New Felted Christmas ornaments

Isn't it crazy that it's September already? I have already begun my Christmas shopping, I know it's early but I like to get things done sooner than later.

I have also started making some new Christmas items for my shop. I am already getting searches for Christmas ornaments and since I don't have a large selection I thought it was about time I started making some.

I really love butterflies and birds and for starters I have added a couple of felted ball ornaments to my shop. The first one is a monarch butterfly ornament and the other I have added so far is a cardinal ornament. Both of these ornaments are needle felted with wool roving and are made around a Styrofoam ball. I have also added a white ribbon to them so you can place them on your tree. You can check them out in my Artfire studio. Here are a couple of pictures of the finished product.

Bark as in Tree!

My newest collection on Artfire is this assortment of woody, bark items. From masks to baskets there are so many things that can be made from wood or made to look like wood. The cup for example is made from pottery but it resembles bark so well. Also the ring it's copper but the detail is wonderful.

Yes I need to loose weight and I also need to eat more fruit and less junk! That chocolate is just so good though!

So here are a few new goodies from my shop. I have made apple, pear, orange and strawberry felted earrings to remind me that these fun fruit are oh so good for you and they are super yummy and tasty! These little guys were so fun to make and I was excited to list them today. I hope you think they are as cute as I do!

Spring is here! Yeah! Easter is almost upon us and Mother's Day is just around the corner. Spring to me says flowers so in honor of the weather being so nice and I"m starting to see the buds sprouting, I have added a couple new flower brooches to my Artfire shop.

Earth Day Donation for CPAWS

I was contacted about a month ago by the Canadain Parks and Wilderness Society about an Earth Day event happening at Wabi Sabi in Ottawa, Ontario. They are making a wilderness display in their window for Earth Day April 22, 2011. I was asked if I would like to participate and create one of the animals listed on their blog for the display. Whatever I created had to be something that was local to the Ontario wilderness.

Since I have always had a fascination with the Canadian Lynx ever since I was a small child, and I used to enjoy pencil drawing it quite often. This was my animal of choice for the display. It took quite a few hours to complete this little guy but I think he turned out well. I also completed a raccoon for the display because they are pretty abundant here in Ottawa. If your interested in seeing my needle felted animals, they can be viewed at the display at Wabi Sabi in Ottawa, Ontario between April 1 and April 31, 2011. Here are a couple of pictures of both the completed animals. Both of these animals will be donated to the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society for their table displays at events. It will give childrens and adults something to look at and handle.

I have been working hard lately on my needle felted items. Trying to get to that magical 100 items. Here are a view of the new items in my Artfire shop. For the shark decor lover I have completed this needle felted great white shark. Also new is this little needle felted rabbit in an egg shape for the year of the rabbit. Needle and felted soap tutorial

Here's a video I have put together for anyone who wants to make felted soap. The first video is how to needle felt your design onto the soap and then I show you how to felt the soap in the second video. Felted soaps make great Christmas gifts and you can find some amazing handmade soaps on Artfire that you can use to felt. Check out these shops for some awesome handmade soaps.

Don't want to make your own felted soap just go to Artfire or Etsy and type in felted soap in the search bar to find some amazing soaps.

To do my tutorial I used a bar of Emu Oil soap but you can use any kind of soap. Check out the shops above for some handmade soaps that smell great. I have personally bought from three of these shops and was super happy with my products!

When you are finished felting your soap place it on a towel to dry before using.

Free Toddler Crochet Bobble Headband Pattern

Here's a free pattern for your enjoyment! Feel free to use it as you please but don't sell the pattern please! Thanks! :)

Instruction on how to make a bobble (Yo, insert hook in next st, yo, draw yarn through st and up to level of work) 3 times in same st, yo, draw yarn through 7 stitches on hook)

Chain 7

Row 1: Bobble in 4th chain from hook, *ch1, skip next ch, bobble in next ch; dc in last ch, turn

Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as dc), (bobble, ch1) in each ch-1 space across to last ch-1 space, dc in 3rd chain of turn ch, turn.

Repeat Row 2 for pattern. Make long enough to go around head for a snug fit and leave a long tail for sewing ends together. To pretty it up you can add a nice crochet or felt flower.

NEW Bird Ornament-Needle felted

I have been trying my hand at some little bird's and they are coming out soooo cute! I made this little guy a couple of days ago and listed him on my Artfire and Etsy sites. I was almost thinking of keeping him because he's just so adorable, but alas I can't keep everything I make right!

What have I broke down for you ask? Well I went out and bought myself a needle for felting. I have some organic merino wool that I bought a while back and haven't done a lot with so I thought to branch out and try my hand at needle felting. Well of course I never really try a small project first I always have to jump right in and try the hardest thing I can think of. Of course I wanted to make my niece something for Christmas so I opted for a cat as my first needle felting project. It was an experience and I have already broken one of my felting needles! oopps! but I think he turned out wonderful.

Anyways on to the finished project. I'm hoping she will love it. So what do you think?

Pretty Christmas dishcloths

New to my shop is some crochet Christmas dishcloths. They are a mix of green, red and white, more colors coming soon. I use these dishcloths myself and love how they are great at scrubbing the dirt off of your dishes. They are made of 100% cotton and can be machine washed and dryed. There may be a bit of shrinkage during the first washing. Here's a picture of the set I posted just recently.

New Amigurumi Snowflake decoration

Isn't this little guy adorable? I just added him to my shop yesterday, he was such fun to make! I think he would make a lovely little decoration on someones tree or he could just be a little pal to carry around.

I have also added some Christmas baby snap clip hair barrettes to my shop selling at $2.50 a pair. It's a great deal and I'm only charging $1-$2 for shipping on these barrettes. Grab them while you can!

New Friends for Halloween

I just completed some new little friends for Halloween. A cute little owl amigurumi crochet friend and a little hairy amigurumi crochet spider. Both are made with acrylic yarn and are available in my shop right now.

They are both small and fit in the palm of your hand. Makes a great gift for children or adults who love little pocket friends :) Here are a couple of pics of the little guys.

I took some time off from my craftsbykeri shop but I'm now back on board. I have been adding a lot of new items. My newest item is this little furry friend called Moomee, of course the name came from my little ones imagination. He's a cute little furry amigurumi friend with big eyes and tiny little ears. He's available in my shop right now and can be made in many different colors.

Well it's been about 6 months since I have written on my blog! Bad me! My little toddler keeps me running around so I just don't seem to have the time to sit and write! Although it could be I just don't manage my time good enough :)

As promised here are some pics of the wedding jewellery I completed for a bride back in August. The wedding was white, black and red. I did the jewellery for the bride, maid of honor and bridesmaid. The pieces were all different.

The first pic is of the brides two strand Swarovski pearl and Swarovski crystal necklace. The next pictures is the four strand bracelet that turned out beautifully. In the third pic you will see the classy clasp that I added.

The maid of honor had a drop necklace in black pearls and red crystals and a double strand memory wire bracelet.

The bridesmaid had a single pearl and crystal necklace with a single strand Swarovski pearl bracelet.

The earrings were all a simple drop style and I also did some small cultured freshwater pearl and Swarovski crystal pins for the brides hair. The jewellery came out wonderfully and the bride was pleased. I received some pictures from the wedding and the bride looked lovely in the jewellery.

2nd Birthday

I have been extremely busy this week. First of I am doing a custom order for wedding jewelry for a bride. Pics to come soon.

Secondly it was my daughters 2nd birthday on Thursday and her party is tomorrow. We are not doing a large party just family and at home.

I really like the idea though of making your own cakes and last year I made her the stand up teddy bear cake. It was a hit so this year I wanted to do a sheep cake, she really loves sheep.

I found this tutorial on how to make fondant sheep . I have never used fondant before but just had to take on these adorable sheep. I bought the fondant and practiced first then a couple of days ago I made two to go on the cake. I also used the same idea and made this cute little English sheepdog, which is of my own design. Not bad for someone who has never used fondant in their life. I am also by no means a professional cake decorator. This is only my second cake that has been decorated so extensively. I added a fence and here is the finished cake.

I totally forgot to mention that this cake is also dairy free made from this incredible vegan chocolate cupcake recipe that I found.

Treasury

Hello Ladies and Gents,

I have procrastinated again by not posting which is not a great thing when you need some followers!

Well on Saturday I was able to snag myself a Treasury on Etsy and I called it CANADA does PURPLE. It features some amazing Canadian artists that have come up with wonderful items in of course the shade of purple. I really LOVE Purple! The treasury is getting some good hits and I hope the stores that I picked do benefit from it.

On another note, as my last post promised I am also in the Children's Showcase today Monday May 25, 2009. Hopefully I do get some hits even though it is a holiday in the United States today.

Oh yes I have also come up with a new headband an adjustable one to be exact. It's pretty cute, it has a large flower attached to it also. It has a small cord adjuster so it will fit infants to toddlers. Check it out in my shop.

I can't forget I have also added a Canada Flag hair clip to my collection. Canada Day is coming up soon and I figured some Mommy's would love the clip for their little one's.

I have uploaded my etsy shop with a couple of new crochet hair clips. There is a new vibrant red one and a pink one. I also designed a new daisy hair clip with wool felt that I posted a couple of days ago. I have been posting a lot lately because I signed up for a Showcase on the 25th of May, so I want to have a good selection of items to choose from. Keep your eyes out for me!

Busy Busy Weekend

Well I had a very busy weekend. My daughter was baptised on Mother's Day ( Sunday) which was very exciting and special. Everything went really really well. After the baptism we had a lovely family brunch and I really had a wonderful Mother's Day.

I did have a bit of time though to make a few things and ended up making my daughter this new pair of pants. I have so much fabric laying around and have finally decided to start using it. I crocheted the little white flowers and added them to the pants. I think it's different and unique. Maybe I should start a new clothing line :)

I also updated my CraterJewellery sight on etsy with a couple of new necklaces. I have really really procrastinated and haven't been uploading a lot so I thought I would crack down and start doing some stuff. I have been waiting for my husband to fix up my Crater website so things could start looking a lot better. He redesigned it for me but I have to say I don't like it very much and actually liked the old design a lot better.

Time to wake up the little one. Two hour naps go by so fast!

New Hair Clips

I had posted a new little blue bird hair clip about a week ago and last night I made this cute little kitty clip. It really is a lot of fun making these clips they come out so cute! I use 100% wool felt for all my clips. I find it makes them stronger and better made. I also hand-cut each of my appliques and hand sew them also. I have a few more ideas in mind but I just have to get around to doing them.

Well since I have a bunch of fabric laying around that I haven't been using I decided to make one of those pillow case dresses that are so popular right now. I found a tutorial on youtube that was very helpful, here is the link

I did modify the directions a bit to fit my little one who is a skinny minny. I also used bias tape instead of the fabric around the arm holes. I think it turned out great and can't wait for her to wear it out.

I found this cute pattern in a book for a crochet baseball cap so I started to crochet the pattern and of course it ended up turning out a little large and not exactly what the picture was showing me. Well instead of pulling it all apart like I had already done once, I decided to modify it and this is what I came up with. I added the small flower for an accent. I think she looks adorable with it on.

Ok so this is my first blog post. Forgive me if my posts are not too interesting yet :) What have I been up to besides taking care of my almost 2 year old who keeps me very very busy. It's a wonder I even have time to make hair clips, jewellery or anything else for that matter! I have had some time to come up with some new hair clip designs that are made with 100% wool felt.

The hair clip that is pictured is one of my crochet accomplishments.

I have also stopped procrastinating and have finally uploaded some of these new clips onto my etsy site. Come by and check them out and tell me what you think?
